Hippi —

Hippi is a SaaS startup I founded in 2020. Here, we develop software that improves the quality of life of millions of digital freelancers. At Hippi, we truly believe in a world where people are truly happy and in control of their work.

In order to fund the initial software development, I decided not to speak to VC or angel investors. Instead I chose to get funded by the same target audience that Hippi is trying to help. Therefore, I needed to involve 70 high-profile freelancers, tell them my vision, and get them to sign an investment contract.
By having 70 freelancers already on board, I could count them to validate Hippi’s products before they are launched and spread the word about our vision.

Before developing an automated marketing process, I had clear objectives consisting of the following:

  • Generate brand awareness through email marketing

  • Accurate and automated profiling of each lead based on activities such as email activity (which email was opened, how many times was it opened, has the recipient replied, clicked on links, forwarded the email, and which buttons were clicked?); video interaction (how many times did a person play a video, how long did they play it, and what was the watch time they stopped at?); website activity (which web pages were visited, how many times were they visited, and how long were they visited?)

  • Lead scoring, so that I would know how likely it was for a lead to convert into an investor

  • No scheduling or availability checks; appointments need to be scheduled directly by the prospect without any human interaction

  • Keep track of each lead, prospect, and investor, at all stages of the funnel

  • Automate transactional emails

For less than $100 per month in productivity tools and around 160 hours of work, I automated the entire awareness, activation, acquisition and retention, revenue, and referral phases (AAARRR funnel) of the investor funnel.
I simply waited until either an appointment was automatically scheduled or I received the contract signed. The rest was handled by the software. In the background, hundreds of emails were dispatched every single day based on the lead’s interaction with the emails and the website.

This marketing automation enabled me to save roughly six hours of my time every day, six days a week, for four months. This kind of fundraising round would never be possible without this level of digital transformation.

TecnoAcademy —

TecnoAcademy produces and distributes professional online courses through its proprietary e-learning web platform.

In Italy it is mandatory for members of a professional register (e.g. engineers, architects, or chemists) to complete enough sector-related courses in order to reach the yearly quota of credits. The successful completion of each online course guarantees a specified number of credits to the learner. TecnoAcademy is the only e-learning company accredited to all professional registers in Italy.

The company was suffering from an identity crisis due to a lack of a clear market positioning and brand core identity. Furthermore, their marketing strategy was fueled exclusively by human efforts, making it inefficient and extremely expensive.

While another consultant worked on establishing a cohesive brand strategy (market research, buyer persona, and positioning), I focused on the marketing side. At first, I identified key objectives to drastically improve the efficiency of the company, such as:

  • Generating brand awareness through content marketing and social media

  • Crawling and scraping public records for qualified leads

  • Performing accurate and automated scoring of each lead (email) based on activities like email activity (which email was opened, how many times was it opened, and has the person who opened the email replied, clicked on links, and forwarded the email, and which buttons were clicked?); and website activity (which web pages were visited, how many times were they visited, and for how long were they visited?)

  • Automating email marketing, where custom funnels react based on conditions like score, activity, and professional register. Stop doing this by hand

  • Utilizing “referral” and “returning customers” marketing campaign, so that the company could tap into this segment of their customer base

During my Online Marketing Automation program, I taught employees the right automation tools and followed the execution of the planned marketing strategy. This way, the company has retained the know-how necessary to plan and implement new strategies, so they won’t be dependent on my consulting in the future.

Thanks to my program, they were able to save around 62% for each man-hour invested in marketing efforts, while drastically improving their ROI, with an 8% higher conversion rate and a 24% increase in Customer Lifetime Value.
